About EuroNGOs
What is EuroNGOs?
EuroNGOs is a European network of non-governmental organisations that cooperate in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights, population and development. The first official meeting of the network was held in Hannover in 1996. Since then, annual meetings have provided network members with the opportunity to meet with each other, with grant-making foundations and with key international leaders who work on sexual and reproductive health and rights. Between meetings, EuroNGOs members keep in regular contact through several e-mail lists. These serve as a tool for strengthening co-operation, fostering cohesiveness and exchanging information on projects, campaigns, meetings and other events. Read more about our aims.
Who is involved?
In addition to the members of EuroNGOs, parliamentary groups and organisations from other parts of the world are a part of the network as associate members. Foundations from the United States of America have been highly supportive of the work of EuroNGOs and its members. These include the Rockefeller Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Wallace Global Fund, Population Action International, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Summit and John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundations.
How is EuroNGOs governed?
Five members of EuroNGOs are elected every two years to serve on the Steering Committee, which organises the work of the network. They are joined by observers invited from the United National Population Fund (UNFPA) and from the European Network of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF EN). The new secretariat, hosted by the IPPF EN in Brussels, administers the network and coordinates its activities, which are determined by the Steering Committee.
What is EuroNGOs' international mandate?
EuroNGOs recognises the importance of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and highlights the natural linkages that exist between the MDGs and fulfilling the goals of the ICPD Programme of Action.
