Upcoming Events: Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs to speak at hearing on 'The EU towards the UN Summit on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)’ at the European Parliament

1 June

The Parliamentary hearing which will be hosted by MEP Gay Mitchell, has been jointly organized by Alliance 2015 and the Parliamentary Group of the European People's Party (EPP). The purpose of the hearing will be to strategise on the EU position for the UN MDG summit which takes place in September. The meeting will also take the occasion to launch the sixth 2015-Watch report ‘Keeping the Goals Alive’. The report will be available as of next week from the Alliance 2015 website. Upcoming Events: Launch of the fifth annual European AidWatch report

10 June

In preparation for the UN MDG Summit, CONCORD, the European Confederation of Relief and Development NGOs, is to launch its Aidwatch report. The European AidWatch report 2010 will assess overall EU performance on key quantity and quality aspects of aid and provide a country by country analysis of each member state’s performance, problem areas specific to that donor, and predictions on the likely ability of each country to meet the aid targets to which it has committed. The policy discussion accompanying the launch will aim to discuss the findings of the report and key messages around European aid in the context of the 2010 MDG review. Upcoming Events: EU High-Level Event on Global Health

10– 11 June

A high-level event which anticipates over 300 participants including senior officials and experts plans to discuss future work related to the European Commission’s recent Global Health Communication. The objectives of the conference are to present the Communication and to discuss key challenges, goals, policy instruments and partnerships with stakeholders and global partners to see how the EU can most effectively engage with all actors to improve health at global level.
